Carports

  • A carport provides a robust and weatherproof covering. Because the port is roofed with steel, it provides complete protection against hail and pollution fallout. It is also possible to build taller structures that can accommodate large vehicles.

The general rule of carports is that low price = low quality. The frame of a carport needs to be capable of handling the weight of the steel roof and of absorbing the wind load. Even though there is a cost implication we don’t compromise on the strength and quality of the materials we use. For more information please use the Contact Us page to send us your query.

Three structure designs available

Conventional 4-post structures: this structure has a support post at each corner with the roof frame spanned between them. It can be erected just about anywhere and can handle spans of up to 7.5m x 7.5m. Larger freespan structures are possible, by making use of a different construction method.

Cantilevered structures: these have two main supports placed on the sides of the structure, with braces providing additional support to the roof frame. Also, this design has the advantage of leaving clear space at the front and rear of the port. The maximum size we build is 5m wide x 5m deep (which will accommodate 2 cars). Any number of individual ports can be conjoined to provide the number of parking bays needed.

Wall-mounted structures: special brackets are mounted to a wall and act directly as one or more supports for the roof frame. Because of the lateral stress created by the weight of a roof frame we do not build wall-mounted cantilever steel carports.

In addition there is a luxury option available. This uses an imported roofing material that combines the strength and protection of steel but eliminates its heat and noise disadvantages. This material:
– reduces the under-roof temperature to that of a ventilated open area in deep shade
– deadens the drumming noise of rain and hail
– requires no painting and minimal maintenance over its estimated 40-year lifespan

Carports are classed as permanent structures and usually require municipal planning approval.
